More leaders, managers and supervisors in government and parastatal agenciesare following another series of training to boost their capacity and skills to make the activities of their organisations more transparent, accountable through good governance.

Sexual and gender-based violence refers to any act that is perpetrated against a person's will and is based on gender norms and unequal power relationships.

It includes physical, emotional or psychological and sexual violence, and denial of resources or access to services.

Employment remains a key problem in the agricultureindustry in Seychelles and this was made evident by the 11 visits conducted by the Ministerfor Employment and Social Affairs, Patricia Francourt during the past weeks.

The minister has committed herself to push the industry forward through several discussions that will help analyse where the problems in agriculture lie.

The second cohort of trainees for the year 2020 who successfully completed the ‘Prepare for Work Programme,’ realised by The Guy Morel Institute, in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs, on Friday received their certificates.

The group of over 20 trainees were presented with their certificates by Minister Patricia Francourt and director general for employment programmes, Letimie Dookley, in a brief ceremony held at the institute.

Leaders are being urged to learn to use the principles of accountability and transparency to improve service delivery in government.

Under the speakership of Deputy Speaker Gervais Henrie, the National Assembly yesterday voted to approve the Agency for Social Protection Amendment Bill (2021), which seeks to revise and amend the provisions with regards to qualifications and appointment of the board for the agency.

In presenting the amendments, Minister for Employment and Social Affairs, Patricia Francourt noted that the Agency for Social Protection Act makes provisions for the agency to be administered by a board comprising seven members, appointed by the President of the Republic.

The Seychelles Community Training Institute (Secti) is currently hosting a three-day training for job seekers without any prior qualification or work experience. ‘Create employment for myself’ is a project done in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs and is being held at Secti’s office at Roche Caiman.

Agriculture should be made more attractive to the next generations of farmers, hence the need to introduce favourable conditions to attract more youth to the industry.

The aim of these visits is to understand the farming environment in order to have targeted strategies to encourage more people to join the industry.
