‘Let’s come together to uplift our women especially those that are facing difficulties to cope with the challenges of life’

“March 8 is a special day on the calendar celebrated each year to pay homage and honour our amazingly brave and resilient women of this world. For the past year we have truly seen how much strength our sisters, mothers or wives possess to be able to get back on their feet despite many adversities brought about by the situation we are living in. It takes perseverance but through their maternal instincts their thoughts are always geared towards providing for self and family no matter how hard life can get

“As we celebrate their success, we give them acclaim for successfully holding a career while at the same time raising a family and being great at it. Immense progress has been achieved to uphold the astounding contribution that women have in all walks of life including in their chosen career. Many are occupying leadership positions in our society and many are choosing a profession predominantly performed by men. It is women that hold the fort most times especially in times of crisis but often they do not get the recognition that they very much deserve. Despite having fewer women jobseekers currently than men which was not the case pre-Covid-19, women still encounter difficulties to access permanent employment with a higher percentage falling in the category of long-term unemployment.

“I take the opportunity of this special occasion to call on society as a whole to come together and do our part in uplifting our women especially those that are facing difficulties to cope with the challenges of life. Let us be the example for our young girls and women growing up so that they have a good foundation to make their own contribution and become responsible citizens of our society.   As a government we remain committed and engaged to provide our support so that you can continue to flourish in life and your chosen vocation.

“I wish all women of Seychelles a Happy Women’s Day.”
