National employment policy

The Government’s Policy on employment is to ensure that the country has, based on sound education and training, a multi-skilled, disciplined, motivated, satisfied and highly motivated workforce operating in a safe working environment and capable of undertaking the challenges of development to lead the country in the new millennium and beyond.

In contributing to the country’s overall economic and social development, the Employment Policy will endeavour to achieve the following objectives: 

  • Promote full, productive and freely chosen employment without discrimination; 
  • Overcome unemployment and underemployment; 
  • Meet national human resource requirements; 
  • Maintain the right competitive edge to perform better and to stimulate economic growth and development; 
  • Raise the standard of living of all citizens.
